2023: The year of intense projects. Sulu thanks all our users and contributors.
In 2023, Sulu GmbH experienced a year of successful project work and fruitful collaborations. Ambitious projects enriched our expertise and showcased, once again, the versatility of Sulu CMS. A further highlight was that we extended our partner network by three new members. I’m also thrilled to see our superb Sulu team expand and thrive, whether we do client work or Sulu core development. The vibrant Sulu community continued to be an essential source of support, both by contributing to the code and spreading the word.
Overall, we are looking back on a very successful year that has set the foundation for moving Sulu CMS forward in 2024.
Focused work with long-term clients
In 2023, we spent significant time working on new and ongoing projects with some of our long-standing clients. Along the way, we collected new insights and experiences that we will use to improve Sulu further.
A new website design for Küchengötter
Küchengötter.de, the “gods of the kitchen” site, moved to Sulu CMS in 2015. This year, we did a substantial design overhaul of this fabulous cooking site by Ganske Digital GmbH. Sulu CMS’s strict separation of content and presentation proved extremely valuable for this project. We’re grateful for the deep and successful collaboration on this project.
A cinema ticketing system for Westpac Open Air
The Allianz Cinema project delivers annual open-air cinema events across Switzerland, using Sulu as the all-in-one platform for ticketing, reservations, e-commerce, and more. In 2023, we finished a project on the other side of the globe. Westpac Open Air, an Allianz Cinema partner, uses Sulu to manage the open-air cinema season in Sydney, Australia.
Spare parts and more for fans of historic mopeds
Mofakult.ch offers virtually any spare part you need to keep your historic moped up and running. Their marvelous website is powered by a headless Sulu CMS connected to the Symfony-based e-commerce system Sylius. Fusonic, the leading agency behind this large project, partnered with us to deliver it successfully in the summer of 2023.
A synergy of new and seasoned: The powerhouse team behind Sulu
All of the above would not have been possible without the outstanding team at Sulu GmbH. I want to send special thanks to the ones who keep the ship sailing:
Our latest addition to the team is Martin, who is always keen on taking over new tasks and quick at turning unknown topics into new skills.
Redjan is our first fully remote team member. Located in Albania, Redjan is experienced in working remotely and knows how to stay motivated and committed to our goals.
If you think speed and quality are mutually exclusive, you don’t know Daniel. He can combine both while taking over responsibility and thinking ahead.
Finally, let me specifically mention two people without whom Sulu would not have been possible: Alex and Johannes.
Alex lives open source to the fullest extent. He strives for excellence in all he does and is always available to help. Alex is our support guru for all things Sulu.
Johannes is always at the cutting edge of technology and eager to try new things. If you need something quickly, Johannes delivers it in the blink of an eye.
Sulu team, you rock! 🚀
Our supporters, magnifiers, and promoters: The wonderful Sulu community
This recap of 2023 wouldn’t be complete without a big shout-out to the wonderful Sulu community. We met some of you at SymfonyCon 2023 in Brussels, and it was incredible! I hope we’ll meet again at next year’s SymfonyCon in Vienna.
At this point, I want to express my gratitude to all who actively help Sulu strive. Two people in particular stand out.
Mamazu for tirelessly contributing to the Sulu codebase.
TheCadien for spreading the word through talks and training sessions.
Big thanks also to everyone who helps make Sulu better. You keep the spirit of open source alive!
2024, the year of new milestones
After a year full of intense client projects, Sulu will do more Sulu in 2024. Specifically, we plan to release version 2.6 early in the year. Version 2.6 will be a long-term support (LTS) version, receiving updates until Sulu 4.0 gets released.
Sulu 3.0, the next major release, is observing a delay, but we are confident that version 3.0 will see the light of day in the second half of 2024. After all, this is a major rewrite of the CMS that should not be released in a hurry. Version 3.0 will include a rewrite of the content abstraction layer with a substantially improved multi-language management. We’ll make Sulu 3.0 rock solid, as the Sulu CMS has been all along.
I am looking back in warm appreciation for all your contributions and support. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with you. I wish you a peaceful, joyful holiday season and an even better year in 2024.
Best regards,
Thomas Schedler
