Introducing Sulu.cloud: Managed hosting built for Sulu CMS
We’re delighted to announce the launch of Sulu.cloud, the official managed hosting platform for Sulu CMS.
If you’ve worked on web projects, you probably know the story: A developer estimates three weeks for a feature, then spends two of those weeks wrestling with deployment scripts, tracking down environment inconsistencies, and applying security patches. The actual feature development happens in whatever time is left over.
Agencies face this overhead constantly. You need reliable hosting that doesn’t require a dedicated DevOps team, stays secure without constant maintenance, and scales when traffic spikes. Your developers should be building features, not babysitting servers.
Sulu.cloud addresses exactly this problem. It’s hosting designed specifically for how Sulu developers work, removing the infrastructure burden so you can focus on actual project work.
Why we built Sulu.cloud
We built Sulu.cloud because agencies told us they wanted to spend less time on hosting decisions and more time delivering projects.
Modern web projects have complex requirements. Clients expect sites that handle traffic spikes gracefully, stay online during updates, and meet compliance standards. They want preview environments for stakeholder review and the ability to roll back when something goes wrong.
Meeting these expectations often means hiring DevOps expertise, managing multiple hosting providers, or becoming an infrastructure expert yourself. Each client project might use a different setup, making support more complicated and increasing risk.
So we delivered what agencies needed: a hosting platform that understands Sulu’s architecture and comes pre-configured for performance, security, and scalability.
What exactly is Sulu.cloud?
Sulu.cloud is built on SymfonyCloud’s infrastructure. It combines Sulu-specific optimization with enterprise-grade cloud hosting.
The platform runs on Upsun, giving you access to major cloud providers including AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, IBM Cloud, and OVHcloud. You choose the region that makes sense for your project.
Every new Sulu project includes the configuration files needed for Sulu.cloud deployment, so the setup takes minutes, not days. Push your code with Git, and the platform handles the rest: building your application, provisioning services, and deploying to production.
Key features
- Sulu.cloud uses a Git-native workflow. Create a branch in your repository, and you automatically get a complete environment with that code deployed. Every branch becomes a live preview environment with its own URL, database, and services. You can share these URLs with clients or stakeholders for review without touching production.
- The platform comes pre-configured with the performance tools Sulu projects need: Redis for caching, Varnish for HTTP acceleration, CDN for global content delivery, and high-IOPS SSD storage. These are all built into the platform and optimized for Sulu.
- Security and compliance are handled automatically. Sulu.cloud meets SOC-2, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and GDPR requirements. The infrastructure team monitors everything 24/7 and applies security patches as needed. Your only job is pushing code.
- The platform scales vertically and horizontally. Need more CPU or RAM? Adjust it through the console or CLI. Expecting a traffic spike? Add instances. You pay only for the resources you use, with transparent pricing that scales as your projects grow.
How Sulu.cloud can help your projects
The immediate benefit is time savings. Developers stop context-switching between coding and infrastructure management. That three-week feature estimate? It actually takes three weeks now, not five.
Risk decreases substantially for mission-critical sites. The platform’s architecture has been stress-tested across thousands of Symfony applications. When you deploy, you’re using the same infrastructure that powers major enterprise projects.
Your team keeps the workflows they already know. If you’re comfortable with Git and the Symfony CLI, you’re already familiar with how Sulu.cloud works. There’s no proprietary tooling to learn or custom deployment scripts to maintain.
When traffic spikes happen—because your marketing campaign made an impact or a piece of content went viral—you scale instantly instead of scrambling to add capacity while your site struggles.
How Sulu.cloud works in practice
Get started by connecting your Git repository to Sulu.cloud. The platform reads your project configuration and provisions everything needed: your application container, database, Redis, and any other services you’ve specified.
You work in development environments, test in staging, and deploy to production. Each environment is isolated but shares the same “configuration as code” approach. Clone production to staging when you need to debug an issue with real data. Create a new branch to test a major refactoring without affecting anyone else’s work.
The Symfony CLI manages everything from your terminal. Deploy a branch, open an SSH connection to a remote environment, view logs in real-time, or create a tunnel to access production services from your local machine for debugging.
When you’re ready to deploy to production, the platform handles zero-downtime deployments automatically. If something goes wrong, roll back to the previous version with a single command.
Powered by our partnership with SymfonyCloud
Sulu.cloud is a collaboration between the Sulu core team and SymfonyCloud. We combined our deep understanding of Sulu’s architecture with SymfonyCloud’s proven cloud infrastructure expertise.
This partnership strengthens both open-source ecosystems. Every Sulu.cloud project contributes to funding Symfony development, ensuring the framework continues to evolve. You then get infrastructure built by people who understand both the CMS and the framework it’s built on.
Support comes directly from the Sulu core team. When you have questions about deployment, performance, or how to configure something specific to your project, you’re talking to the people who built the CMS.
